Richard Todd - B Tech, FETC
Richard’s original academic and work experience was in production engineering. Fifteen years in the aerospace industry was supported by part time lecturing in a “technical college” until the demands of the day job grew too much. He then joined a training and consultancy group, training the manufacturing world in application of computing, eventually becoming the MD. During this time he led a team that won the Institute of Personnel and Development’s Award for Excellence in Training Provision; the special award for training providers within the National Training Awards.
Richard has now joined his wife Jo in her business, Key 4 Learning Ltd, a specialist training and consultancy business concerned with “Hidden” disabilities. Bob Niven, the Chief Executive of the Disability Rights Commission, has been quoted saying Key 4 Learning are “the leading advocate and expert on securing progress on neuro-diversity in Britain”.
Key4Learning has been awarded a New Learning Opportunities Award from NIACE and Unison for Improving Equal Access to Learning, based on work with people with hidden disabilities in industry. This led to running training for Unison on the DDA. Key 4 Learning produced “The Dyslexia and Dyspraxia Toolkit” for intranet use within the Civil Service, now published on the Cabinet Office Diversity Works website.
As well as delivering training, Richard is the Access to Work Manager, with responsibility for both the South West and Wales contracts with Jobcentre Plus.
In all these activities Richard leans heavily on more than 25 years of relevant experience living with a family who all have dyslexia.
